What is an information market?

An information market is a marketplace where parties can own outcome tokens on how a future event will resolve. Parties are incentivized by a reward if they are right. A percentage likelihood of an event will be created based on the total amount of tokens that are owned for each outcome.

What is the point of information markets?

Information markets have the power to obtain guesses and beliefs from a large number of people all across the globe, capturing each individual’s unique knowledge about the subject and making it a comprehensive statistic. Although there are experts who devote their livelihoods on a particular subject, they are one individual compared to a group of many. There have been instances where markets can be more accurate than traditional sources.
